Training camp day two was another day of mental reps and pitch count for franchise quarterback Tony Romo.
Jason Garrett has toned down the practices for these first two days saying, “We want the players to have their feet under them after having four weeks off.”
Tony Romo was not participating for the afternoon sessions, but he was there to support his team.
Brandon Carr missed his second day while he is spending time with his ailing mother. Jason Garrett would not give a timetable for Carr’s return to the team.
Rolando McClain has also missed the first two practices but was back in southern California late Friday after being sentenced to 18 days in jail for his part in a resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charge. He will appeal the decision. Jason Garrett said team is standing behind McClain. McClain is expected back on the field tomorrow.
Orlando Scandrick was leading the cornerbacks in Brandon Carr’s absence. Maurice Claiborne looked like a man who wants his job back. Rookie Dashaun Phillips has been impressive.
Henry Melton has been everything the team has expected in these first two days. Nick Hayden is progressing in Rod Marinelli’s system. George Selvie is manning his left end position. Marinelli has been preaching to the whole group to about picking up the pace and playing faster.
Perhaps the best news of all is that there have not been any major injuries in these first two practices.
Tomorrow afternoon the pads come on for the first time this year, but do not expect anyone to be hitting Tony Romo anytime soon. However, there will be contact and the players should be ready for a full practice. After a long wait since our last game, football is finally back for all of us Cowboy fans!
