This has certainly been an up and down season. The defense looked like they really received Monte Kiffin’s message and lessons well in the first two games.
Then, with the loss of Sean Lee, this team cannot seem to stop the run. Without Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware, the team could not apply any pressure on opposing quarterbacks and they could not stop anyone’s air attacks. George Selvie has been streaky in his play, but he has had games where he has been very effective. Poor Jeff Heath just was plain worn out in the New Orleans game from having to be involved in too many collisions as the front line was as porous as a sponge. Jeff Heath redeemed his self with a much better game against the Giants.
I hope that the Cowboys will get Sean Lee back soon and this defense will start to play their roles again.
If history of this season is any indication, we need one player on offense to stay healthy, and that player is none other than Miles Austin. Not only do we need him to stay healthy, we need him to perform better than he has. Miles has had too many dropped balls and not enough of the big plays, plays that we have come to expect from him. With that said, the Cowboys are 5-1 when Miles Austin is able to contribute to this team. We need him to be better, yes, but we need him out there to take some heat off Dez. If Miles can get back to his old form, this offense can lead this team to the playoffs.
