Cowboys vs. Redskins Preview

The Dallas Cowboys visit the Washington Redskins in a game that will decide one, possibly two playoff spots between two of the most bitter rivals in the history of the NFL. The game will be at 8:20 pm eastern time on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Why you should watch: This game epitomizes everything the NFL hopes to have at the end of every season. Two rivals squaring off with a divisional title and potentially two playoff spots on the line in prime-time. Originally, the game was scheduled for earlier in the day, but the NFL realized that this game would be hugely important and switched the time slot with the originally scheduled Giants vs. Eagles game. This game features two of the top quarterbacks in RGIII and Tony Romo, as well as the equally impressive Alfred Morris and several big play receivers. This one could be a game for the ages, and should be viewed by everyone.

What to watch for: What the game will most likely boil down to is a heavyweight fight between the two quarterbacks: Robert Griffin III and Tony Romo. On Thanksgiving RGIII tore Dallas apart, mostly in the second quarter, in leading Washington to an impressive win that cemented his status as a force to be reckoned with. Romo, on the other hand, has been on fire lately, most recently leading the Cowboys back from down 14 with 4 minutes to go before the Saints ultimately pulled through in overtime. Neither defense is particularly stout, and no one should be surprised if this game ends up being a shootout decided by whichever team has the ball last. There is simply so much firepower that this game could go into the 30s for both teams easily.

Key Matchups: Washington will win this game if they can limit Dez Bryant’s effectiveness. Despite having a fractured finger, Bryant has been a stud over the past few games, scoring two touchdowns last week and racking up major yards in the process. Washington’s secondary has to limit his effectiveness, because the rest of Dallas’s offense has not been very consistent aside from Tony Romo’s play. However, if Bryant explodes for another big game, Dallas could quiet the Redskins crowd early and keep them down throughout the entire game.

The Pick: In what could be a game for the ages, I’m picking the Cowboys to upset the Redskins and make it back to the playoffs for the first time in several years. I think the Cowboys will pull it out, 31-28 in a wild game that could feature huge plays and some serious bad blood. Make sure to tune in to NBC at 8:20 for this one folks.
